Welcome to the second of our four-part series on the What Makes ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ blog, where we highlight some of the incredible analog engineers making an impact at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. Today, we¡¯re excited to introduce Ngoc Bao Nhi Tran, an analog design engineer based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

A passion for numbers and engineering
Growing up, Nhi (pronounced Nee) was drawn to math and physics as a high school student, which inspired her to pursue a degree in electrical engineering at the Ho Chi Minh City University. ¡°I¡¯ve always found numbers fascinating and electronic circuit analysis,¡± she says. ¡°That¡¯s why I chose to specialize in analog IC design.¡±?
From internship to full-time at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ
She joined ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ as an intern in 2023. Then after completing her thesis at the Ho Chi Minh University of Science, she came on board full-time at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ five months ago, as an analog IC design engineer. "³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ is my first full-time job. The interview process was a little challenging, but I¡¯m so proud to be part of the team,¡± Nhi shares.
What keeps her motivated
For Nhi, the most rewarding aspect of her job is analyzing numbers based on the formulas calculated on paper and comparing the results after implementing the circuit in the tool. ¡°I love working with data and solving problems,¡± she explains. However, she¡¯s quick to note that the job comes with its share of challenges. ¡°I¡¯ve had to learn a lot in a short amount of time, but I enjoy the process of constant growth.¡±
Her journey into analog engineering wasn¡¯t without its challenges. "The knowledge I studied in university wasn¡¯t enough for the level of work required at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. Also, in university, I only had access to 130nm technology and when I joined ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, I had access to more modern technologies such as 3nm FinFET technology, but it also makes some challenges for an engineer. So, during my internship, I was supported a lot by my team not only in knowledge but also when I implemented those circuits on the tool.? This commitment to self-learning and along with the help of my team has been key to my success.¡±

Overcoming language barriers and thriving at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ
One of the biggest challenges Nhi faced was working in a primarily English-speaking environment, having completed all her technical education in Vietnamese. She says communicating was difficult at first, especially during technical discussions. So, she decided to enroll in online English classes when she first started at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, and says it¡¯s been a learning curve but that she¡¯s improving every day.
Life outside of engineering
Outside of work, Nhi enjoys trekking and staying active. ¡°Trekking helps me clear my mind and reduce stress. It¡¯s good for my health and it¡¯s a short break to recharge and get back to work.¡±

Besides trekking, Nhi also attends dance class every week and says music helps her feel ¡°more cheerful¡± and often joins her team at the beach to have fun. She also enjoys sightseeing around her beautiful country of Vietnam.
